The Bridge Exercise works the posterior chain muscles of the posterior hip. We like this exercise because it is another exercise that can be performed while maintaining a neutral spine and cueing pure hip extension.
Indication: Low back pain, Hip pain, Gluteal muscle insufficiency.
Focus on squeezing the glutes to initiate the movement and being able to maintain a normal breathing cycle throughout the exercise. It is not uncommon for patients whose gluteal muscles are inhibited to experience immediate cramping in the hamstrings.
