Core Exercises: Plank Progression

Are you suffering from back pain? The Plank Exercise is one of the best exercises to strengthen the core musculature. It is an anti extension exercise that spares the spine by keeping it in a neutral posture.

Too often when we prescribe exercise plans the focus is on gaining strength (phasic muscles) and we forget about endurance (postural muscles). Unfortunately, standing and sitting extended periods require the postural muscles to have to work harder and if these are not built for endurance, you have pain. The Plank Exercise is an exercise that you can build up to doing for minutes at a time.

Muscles worked: Rectus Abdominus, External and Internal Obliques, Transversus Abdomens and Gluteal Musculature.
