Will Physical Therapy Help Me?
Physical therapy is a structured approach to physical rehabilitation that employs targeted body movements to improve and restore functional capabilities.
Our clinic uses Mulligan’s concept physical therapy, which consists of Mulligan mobilization with movement. This is a proven method of PT that produces exceptional results.
The primary goal is to help patients regain strength, flexibility, and endurance specific to their physical conditions while also preventing further deterioration. The exercises needed to accomplish this are categorized into two main types—active and passive—based on the method of execution.
Active therapeutic exercises
Active therapeutic exercises are physical movements performed by the patient without assistance from our physical therapist. The goal of active therapeutic exercises is to help patients regain movement, strength, and range of motion after an injury or chronic condition.
Examples of active therapeutic exercise include:
- Balance activities: These exercises help improve regular daily functioning and reduce the risk of falling as lower-body strength is nurtured
- Range of motion: These exercises help improve the flexibility and movement of specific joints, preventing stiffness and improving overall function
- Strength training: This type of therapeutic exercise will help increase muscle power, flexibility, posture, and balance
- Endurance exercise: These activities help improve flexibility, strength, and stamina, helping to prevent further impairment of structures and functions
- Stretches: These exercises help strengthen and stretch tissues and joints for enhanced recovery and injury prevention
- Functional tasks: These activities involve dynamic movements that require the patient to engage in a functional task, such as walking, moving from sitting to standing, or throwing a ball
Passive therapeutic exercises
Passive exercises are performed without active muscle contraction by the patient, meaning the patient exerts no effort as the area is moved or exercised.
Our therapist accomplishes this using various passive therapeutic exercises and methods, including:
- Joint and tissue mobilization
- Kinesio taping
- Dry needling
- Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization
- Myofascial Cupping
- Ergonomic Assessments
Each type of physical therapy provided will be tailored to you, contributing to the healing and strengthening process and your overall well-being, function, and comfort. Our plans offer access to a healthy lifestyle, supporting you in our clinic and beyond.

What to Expect at Your First Physical Therapy Appointment
At your first physical therapy appointment, we’ll conduct a comprehensive assessment. This includes reviewing your medical history, identifying discomfort areas, discussing past surgeries or accidents, and understanding your personal goals.
Based on this information, you’ll receive an individualized treatment plan. This plan may combine physical therapy exercises, massage, and educational components to provide holistic care for quicker and safer outcomes.
Treatment begins on your first day. This often includes:
- Exercises and stretches
- Manual therapies such as therapeutic massage, joint mobilization, myofascial release, and dry needling
- Patient education and guidance relative to your unique needs
- Take-home exercise and stretching plan
Our clinic offers chiropractic care and massage therapy to complement your PT needs. While we don’t always need to implement these healthcare services, your tailored experience with us may find them beneficial. We will thoroughly discuss all options with you prior to creating a recovery strategy.
What should I wear to my physical therapy appointment?
To be the most effective, we recommend wearing loose, workout-style clothing so you are comfortable throughout your sessions with our physical therapist. Consider sneakers in case any high-impact exercise is needed, and it’s best to allow for easy access to any areas of concern.
